Collector Description:

Hi watch enthusiasts,

I recently sold and shrunk my collection to add more color and add some watches that are more "valuable". I personally think value drives from how you connect to a watch & not the price tag. I added some color to my collection because to me that's a way fun to collect.

Collector Description:

What are your thoughts on my 3 watch collection? What could I improve?

Seiko 5 - This is my inexpensive work/travel watch that I don’t have to worry about. I put a rubber band on it for a little extra durability.

Tissot PRX - I’m not sure if this classifies as a dress watch but I wanted something with a sleek design and nice metal bracelet for more formal events, also wanted it to stand out a bit so I opted for the blue dial.

IWC Pilot 3706 - My most expensive watch. Got this as more of a keepsake item, since it’s got a lot of history and a cool story behind it. Went with a nato band to give it a more military/vintage look, I dress it up with a nice black leather for occasions.

Collector Description:

Land, Air, Sea Blues.

First state of the collection post from a slight-of-wrist collector (6.25 in). Seiko SPB149 diver is the one closest to my heart. Wish I could have better captured the blue dial. I have been trying to find a leather strap for the alpinist but I always end up putting it back on the bracelet. Unlike the green alpinist, I find this one to be less versatile. This shade of blue makes it look more elegant than toolsy imo. The Spirit 37 is easily the most refined of the bunch. It has long lugs which give it a unique appearance on the wirst. Some have said that its long lugs make it wear larger but it definitely wears like a 37mm to me. What should I get next?

The **Longines 1832 Moon Phase and Tissot Le Locle Open Heart** provide **classical Swiss refinement**, while the **Omega Moonwatch and Seamaster Diver 300M** bring **iconic tool-watch credibility and cutting-edge technology**. With **Omega comprising 50% of the collection**, the focus leans toward **prestigious Swiss craftsmanship and innovation**, especially in the realm of **chronometry and dive watches**. The collection **excels in Movement, Brand Prestige, and Complications**, with the **Omega Moonwatch and Seamaster leading in technical sophistication**. This collection is well-suited for a **versatile collector who appreciates both dress and sport watches**, allowing for **seamless transitions between professional, casual, and adventure settings**. --- ## **Overall Collection Rating: 8.4/10.0** ### **Movement Metric (9.2/10.0)** The **Omega Co-Axial Master Chronometer** movements provide **exceptional accuracy and durability**, particularly with **METAS certification** in the Moonwatch and Seamaster. The **Longines L899 and Tissot Powermatic 80 Open Heart movements** offer **reliable Swiss performance**, though they do not match Omega's technical advancements. ### **Brand Metric (9.0/10.0)** Omega’s **heritage, prestige, and technological leadership** elevate the collection's brand score. Longines and Tissot provide strong Swiss branding, but they rank below Omega in **luxury positioning**. ### **Complications Metric (8.9/10.0)** This collection includes **a chronograph, moon phase, and open-heart display**, with the **Moonwatch featuring a legendary chronograph complication**. The **diverse mechanical features** enhance the collection’s technical appeal. ### **Dials & Design Metric (8.6/10.0)** The collection features **a mix of classical and sporty designs**, with highlights including the **Tissot Le Locle’s open-heart execution and the Omega Seamaster’s wave dial**. ### **Material Metric (8.5/10.0)** The Omega Seamaster’s **ceramic bezel and titanium components**, alongside the **sapphire crystals and premium stainless steel cases**, ensure **high durability and quality**. ### **Functions Metric (8.3/10.0)** With **300m water resistance on the Seamaster, a high-precision chronograph, and anti-magnetic protection in the Moonwatch**, this collection offers **functional versatility**, although the dress watches lack lume and robustness. ### **Versatility Metric (8.2/10.0)** The collection **spans multiple use cases**, covering **formal, casual, sport, and adventure categories**. The **Moonwatch and Seamaster provide rugged versatility**, while the **Longines and Tissot serve dressier occasions**. ### **History & Innovation Metric (8.0/10.0)** Omega's **pioneering advancements in anti-magnetic technology and chronometry**, along with **Longines’ rich history**, contribute to the strong historical relevance of the collection. ### **Rarity Metric (7.5/10.0)** While **all four watches are readily available**, the **Moonwatch’s legendary status and the Seamaster’s premium features** enhance the collection’s exclusivity. ### **Cohesiveness Metric (7.3/10.0)** This collection **balances dress and sport watches** effectively, but the **stylistic contrast between formal and tool watches** slightly reduces overall cohesiveness. --- ## **Collection Strengths** - **Exceptional movement quality** with **two Omega Master Chronometers**. - **Diverse complications** covering **moon phase, chronograph, and open-heart** designs. - **Balanced mix of dress and sport watches**, ensuring **versatile styling options**. - **High brand prestige**, led by **Omega’s horological dominance**. ## **Ideas for Improvement** 1. **Add a High-End Dress Watch** - **Why?** The current collection lacks a **truly high-end dress piece**, as the **Longines and Tissot are more entry-level luxury**. - **Recommendation:** **Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Moon** ($8,500) – A refined, high-horology alternative to strengthen the dress segment. 2. **Include a GMT for Travel Utility** - **Why?** A **GMT watch would enhance travel versatility** and **expand the complication variety**. - **Recommendation:** **Grand Seiko SBGM221 GMT** ($5,600) – A **classic dress GMT with high accuracy and finishing**. 3. **Introduce a Titanium or Precious Metal Option** - **Why?** This would **elevate the material quality**, adding **lightweight durability or luxury appeal**. - **Recommendation:** **Omega Seamaster 300 Titanium** ($6,500) – A **lightweight alternative to the Seamaster Diver 300M**. --- ## **Downsizing Advice** If reducing the collection, the **Tissot Le Locle Open Heart** would be the most **expendable**. While it adds **an entry-level Swiss dress watch**, it **overlaps with the Longines 1832 Moon Phase**, which is a **more refined dress option**. --- ## **Watch by Watch Summary** ### **1) Omega Moonwatch Professional Co-Axial Master Chronometer (9.1/10.0)** - $5,141 - **Brand (9.5), History & Innovation (9.5), Movement (9.3), Complications (9.0), Material (8.8), Dials & Design (8.7), Functions (8.6), Versatility (8.5), Rarity (7.9)** - **Iconic chronograph with METAS-certified movement, legendary Moonwatch heritage, and timeless design.** ### **2) Omega Seamaster Diver 300M (8.9/10.0)** - $4,033 - **Brand (9.5), Movement (9.2), Functions (9.0), Material (8.7), Complications (8.5), Dials & Design (8.5), Versatility (8.4), History & Innovation (8.3), Rarity (7.6)** - **Professional dive watch with ceramic bezel, helium escape valve, and Co-Axial METAS certification.** ### **3) Longines 1832 Moon Phase (8.2/10.0)** - $1,250 - **Dials & Design (8.8), Brand (8.5), Material (8.3), Movement (8.2), Complications (8.0), Functions (7.8), Versatility (7.5), History & Innovation (7.2), Rarity (6.8)** - **Elegant moon phase dress watch with refined finishing and Swiss automatic movement.** ### **4) Tissot Le Locle Open Heart (7.8/10.0)** - $800 - **Brand (7.5), Dials & Design (8.0), Material (7.5), Movement (7.4), Complications (7.2), Versatility (7.0), Functions (6.8), History & Innovation (6.5), Rarity (6.3)** - **Entry-level Swiss automatic with an open-heart dial and traditional dress aesthetics.** --- ### **A.I. Collector Description:

I consolidated a larger collection into these 4 this year. I am extremely pleased with this collection as it stands. I feel like each watch gets sufficient wrist time. I also feel like each watch is distinct and has a unique design language. The Explorer and Pelagos FXD get the most wrist time, but I enjoy the Junghans and G-Shock a lot too. I had been pining after the Rolex for some time and it has not disappointed. It’s especially comfortable with the after market Steel Reef on the fly extension link I purchased. Love the FXD on a parachute style strap (the one pictured is from The Watch Steward). Is anyone else enjoying a smaller collection having come from a larger one?

My Core Four:

I was an Apple Watch guy until 2020, when I noticed an Longines DolceVita on a friend. I have owned as many as 8/9 watches including Orient, Christopher Ward, etc but these four are all I need - for now…

  1. Tudor Black Bay 58 39mm - Bought this during my honeymoon and honestly, if I could only have 1 watch, it may be the BB58. The fit, looks, durability just work on in almost any occasion.

  2. Zenith Chronomaster Original 38mm (El Primero) - This had been my grail since I dove into this hobby years ago , but needed a milestone big enough to justify this purchase. This was a gift to myself for becoming a father. This is the perfect sized Chrono for me and the tri color dial is perfect - I will say the lume is not great, and it is not the most legible.

  3. Longines Spirit 37mm - This was my first big watch purchase after getting a big promotion at work. Also wore this on my wedding day. Currently my daily driver, and will always be in my collection.

  4. Hamilton Boulton Quartz Large - Gifted this by my wife after a BJJ belt promotion. This is a killer watch, but in all honesty, it does not get a ton of wrist time, and I tend to gravitate more to the longines/zenith in business casual situations. This will always be in my collection, but the JLC reverso duoface may take its place in the rotation down the road due to it being 2 dress watches + GMT. If you were to swap out the Hamilton, what would you choose to round out this collection?

The collection's balance of casual, formal, and sport styles makes it suitable for a wide range of occasions, appealing to collectors who value both heritage and functionality. ### Ideas for Improvement 1. **Enhance Material Variety**: Introduce a watch with rare materials like titanium or ceramic to elevate the Material Metric. Example: Omega Seamaster Diver 300M (Price Estimate: $5,500). 2. **Increase Complication Depth**: Add a watch with advanced complications, such as a moonphase or perpetual calendar, to enhance the Complications Metric. Example: Longines Master Collection Moonphase (Price Estimate: $3,000). 3. **Boost Movement Complexity**: Include a watch with a more technically complex movement, such as a chronograph with a column wheel or a high-frequency movement. Example: TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre Heuer 02 (Price Estimate: $4,500). ### Downsizing Advice Consider removing the Hamilton Boulton Small Second, as it overlaps in style with the Longines Spirit and has a lower impact on the collection's overall metrics. Collector Description:

Thought I would do a collection update.

Rolex Explorer 40

This is my most recent acquisition. It was purchased for a work milestone. Loving it so far and it currently takes up 99% of my wrist time. I was considering a titanium IWC mark xx but opted for this in the end. Had avoided rolex for almost 10 years in the hobby but I see the reason people love them.

Zenith El Primero Chronomaster

I had purchased a speedy when I got admitted as a lawyer but stupidly sold it. I acquired this to replace it. Was a one-watch owner, owned by a former watchmaker from the Rolex SC.

JLC Reverso

Gift from my wife for our engagement. Probably my favourite. Gets worn less now but gets busted out for special occassions.

Seiko SPB 143

This was a gift for my 30th. Has travelled many places as my companion on many treks, hikes and dives. Great watch to grab for the beach. I think the 62MAS is the perfect dive watch design.

Citizen Promaster

Just a bit of fun and a lume dial - whats not to love.

Whats next?

I think a gold dress watch, PP, VC or JLC ultra thin or an ALS.

What would you get next and why?
