Watch Description

Here we have a gorgeous, vintage, LeCoultre Mystery wrist watch. It features LeCoultre's 17 jewel, manual-winding, caliber 480/CW movement that still keeps accurate time. The 32.3mm round case is crafted from solid 14k yellow gold and has a polished finish. The minute and hour hands are made from natural round cut diamonds which are set in 14k white gold bezels. The 2 piece dial features gold dagger hour markers (with double markers at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock) around the outside and a fluted center piece with a frosted finish and a silver tone. That rotating center piece holds the hour hand and the minute hand is contained in a rotating clear disc that makes it look like it is floating.

### JLC LeCoultre 182 Mystery Dial 14k (1740) Review by A.I. WatchMetrics

---

### Overall Watch Rating: 8.0/10

- **Brand (9.0)**: Jaeger-LeCoultre, often referred to as "The Watchmaker’s Watchmaker," is one of the most prestigious names in horology. The brand is known for its technical mastery, innovation, and classic elegance. Owning a LeCoultre watch, especially a vintage piece, reflects a refined taste and appreciation for fine watchmaking.

- **History & Innovation (9.0)**: The LeCoultre Mystery Dial is a fascinating example of the brand’s innovative spirit. Produced in the mid-20th century, this model was a marvel of engineering and aesthetic creativity, with its "mystery" dial that makes the hands seem to float on the face. This design is a significant historical contribution to horology, showcasing LeCoultre’s capacity for unique time-telling mechanisms.

- **Rarity (8.5)**: As a vintage model, the LeCoultre 182 Mystery Dial is relatively rare, especially in good condition with its original components intact. Its scarcity is enhanced by the fact that it features a solid 14k gold case, making it even more desirable for collectors of mid-century watches.

- **Material (8.5)**: With a 14k gold case, the Mystery Dial offers a high level of craftsmanship and quality. The use of gold enhances the watch's appeal and gives it a luxurious feel that elevates it above standard materials like stainless steel or gold plating.

- **Dials & Design (9.0)**: The mystery dial design is one of the most intriguing aspects of this watch. The floating hour and minute hands add an element of sophistication and wonder. The overall design is clean, elegant, and timeless, with a classic mid-century aesthetic that appeals to both vintage watch collectors and those looking for a unique timepiece.

- **Movement (8.0)**: The watch is powered by a hand-wound mechanical movement, which was typical of high-end watches during its production era. While reliable and well-crafted, it doesn’t feature the advanced complications or high precision of modern movements. However, for a vintage timepiece, it still offers excellent craftsmanship.

- **Complications (6.5)**: The LeCoultre 182 Mystery Dial is a time-only watch, with no additional complications. However, the innovative "mystery" design itself can be considered a form of complication, offering a visual and mechanical complexity.

- **Functions (7.5)**: While the Mystery Dial lacks modern functions like water resistance or lume, its 14k gold construction and mystery dial mechanism make it functionally unique. The hand-wound mechanical movement provides reliability, but beyond basic timekeeping, its appeal is largely aesthetic and historical.

- **Versatility (7.0)**: This watch is best suited for formal or semi-formal settings due to its 14k gold case and vintage appeal. It is not an everyday watch but rather a statement piece for special occasions or for a collector’s display. Its vintage styling limits its versatility in casual or rugged environments.

- **Cohesiveness (8.5)**: The watch’s design is well-integrated with its purpose as a mid-century luxury timepiece. The combination of a 14k gold case, mystery dial, and minimalist design creates a cohesive whole that is elegant, intriguing, and distinctly LeCoultre.

---

### Summary:

The **JLC LeCoultre 182 Mystery Dial** is a standout vintage timepiece that showcases Jaeger-LeCoultre’s historical innovation and commitment to craftsmanship. Its 14k gold case and unique "mystery" dial design make it a coveted piece for collectors of both vintage and high-end watches. While lacking modern complications and functions, its historical value, aesthetic appeal, and rarity more than compensate, making it a timeless classic.
