Watch Description

The Islander Melville GMT is our first GMT that is crafted to be your companion for any occasion. Whether sport, dress, or in-between, the Islander Melville GMT proves that you do not have to spend a lot to get a lot.

Inspired by the hammered finish of vintage and classic jewelry, the dial of the Melville GMT looks as if it has been created by multiple blows with a tiny hammer. Because it is a GMT watch, and identifying the second time zone quickly is important, we have kept that GMT scale a smooth finish. But, only those with a sharp eye will pick up on the tiny hammer we have used as a counter-balance of the seconds hand, adding a small bit of fun to a serious watch.

The Melville GMT is a 40mm case that has a lug to lug 47.5mm. The case is a combination of brushed and polished surfaces. The crown is screw down, an Islander hallmark, that helps ensure 100 meters of water resistance. A 100M watch does not require a screwdown crown, but we prefer the extra measure of safety it provides. The dauphine style hands and done in a brushed finish, and have an intricate line of luminescence that makes telling the time the in the dark a breeze. Along with the super-LumiNova that outlines the markers, you will find the watch to be as good looking in night, as in day. A date window is at the 6:00 position, and maintains dial balance.

A.I. Watch Review:

### **Long Islander Melville GMT Blue Hammer ISL-222 Review by A.I. WatchMetrics**

#### **Watch Summary:**
The **Long Islander Melville GMT Blue Hammer ISL-222** is an **affordable traveler’s watch** with an automatic **GMT complication**. It features the **Seiko NH34 movement**, offering a **41-hour power reserve and an independently adjustable GMT hand**, making it practical for frequent travelers. Built with a **316L stainless steel case, sapphire crystal, and a ceramic bezel insert**, the watch ensures durability and legibility. With **200m water resistance, a screw-down crown, and strong lume**, it is well-suited for various environments, from daily wear to adventure settings.

### **Overall Watch Rating: 6.8/10.0**

- **Functions Metric (8.5/10.0)**
The ISL-222 includes **GMT functionality, 200m water resistance, a screw-down crown, and a sapphire crystal**. The inclusion of a solid bracelet enhances practicality. These features make it an excellent choice for travel and everyday wear.

- **Complications Metric (7.5/10.0)**
The **independently adjustable GMT hand** is a strong complication in this price range. While not as advanced as a **true traveler’s GMT (where the local hour hand jumps independently)**, it remains a valuable function.

- **Movement Metric (7.5/10.0)**
The **Seiko NH34 automatic GMT movement** is reliable and affordable, featuring a **41-hour power reserve** and **hacking seconds**. However, it lacks high-end finishing or premium horological refinement.

- **Brand Metric (7.0/10.0)**
Long Island Watch is a **respected microbrand**, known for offering well-priced **homage and original designs**. While it has strong enthusiast appeal, it lacks mainstream luxury recognition.

- **Versatility Metric (7.0/10.0)**
The **GMT function, robust build, and balanced design** make it ideal for travel, casual wear, and even business casual settings. However, it leans more toward tool-watch aesthetics and less toward formal occasions.

- **Dials & Design Metric (6.8/10.0)**
The **textured blue dial with wave-like patterns** adds depth, and the **lume-filled hands and indices** provide visibility in low-light conditions. The **red GMT hand enhances legibility**. The design, while attractive, draws inspiration from existing models, limiting originality.

- **Material Metric (6.5/10.0)**
The watch is constructed from **316L stainless steel**, with a **sapphire crystal and ceramic bezel insert**, making it durable. However, it lacks exotic materials or high-end finishing techniques.

- **Rarity Metric (5.5/10.0)**
As a **microbrand release, production numbers are limited**, but the watch remains relatively accessible. It is not a rare or highly exclusive model.

- **History & Innovation Metric (5.0/10.0)**
Long Island Watch is a **young brand** with **no major historical contributions to horology**. The NH34 movement is practical but not groundbreaking.

### **Celebrity and Historical Figures:**
While no **specific celebrities** are known to wear Long Islander watches, notable figures who favor GMT watches include:

- **David Beckham** – Frequently seen wearing **travel-oriented GMT watches**.
- **Tom Hanks** – Often spotted wearing **GMT watches** for international travel.
