Watch Description

The Heuer Monaco is one of the most iconic designs ever to have come from the already iconic Heuer brand. The Monaco is a timepiece that is closely associated with motor racing, as well as with the actor Steve McQueen who wore the Heuer 1133B in the classic 1971 racing film "Le Mans".

The Heuer Monaco reference 1133 was part of a trio of watches that Heuer introduced in the year 1969 to house their then-new line of automatic chronograph movements. Heuer in joint partnership with Hamilton, Breitling, Buren, and Dubois-Depraz created and introduced the caliber 11 movements in 1969 to develop the first automatic chronograph movement.

While the watch was totally discontinued in the 1970s due to poor sales, in modern times we've wised up and are thankful to have current versions of the beloved square oddity sitting on retail shelves today. Here we have one of those contemporary pieces, with all its accompanying vintage charm.

A.I. WatchMetrics Review:

### Tag Heuer Monaco CW2111 Review by A.I. WatchMetrics v7.2

---

**Overall Watch Rating: 8.2/10.0**

The **Tag Heuer Monaco CW2111** is an iconic timepiece that holds a significant place in watchmaking history. Its bold square design, chronograph complication, and deep ties to motorsport make it a favorite for collectors and enthusiasts alike. This model embodies both functionality and a sense of vintage racing culture. Let's break down the key metrics for this watch:

---

### Breakdown by Watch Metrics:

- **Brand (10% Weight): 8.5/10**

Tag Heuer holds a prestigious position in the watch industry, particularly known for its history in motorsports and chronographs. The Monaco collection is one of the brand’s most famous and impactful lines, further boosting its brand score.

- **History & Innovation (10% Weight): 9.0/10**

The Monaco was one of the first automatic chronograph watches and one of the first square-cased waterproof watches, making it highly innovative in its era. This historical importance enhances the overall rating in this category.

- **Rarity (10% Weight): 7.5/10**

While not extremely rare, the Monaco CW2111 is a desirable and recognizable watch due to its iconic design and motorsport heritage. However, it is widely available compared to more exclusive models, which slightly lowers its rarity rating.

- **Material (10% Weight): 7.8/10**

The CW2111 features a well-constructed stainless steel case, which is durable and robust, though not particularly unique in terms of material selection. Its high-quality finishing helps to elevate the score.

- **Movement (10% Weight): 8.3/10**

The Monaco CW2111 is powered by the **Calibre 17** automatic movement, a reliable and well-respected chronograph movement. While it may not be an in-house movement, it still offers solid performance with chronograph functionality and decent power reserve.

- **Versatility (10% Weight): 7.9/10**

The Monaco’s bold square case design makes it stand out, though it may not be suited for every occasion. It excels in casual and sporty environments, particularly with its motorsport associations, but may feel out of place in more formal settings.

- **Complications (10% Weight): 7.6/10**

The chronograph function adds a useful complication, particularly for timing events, but it does not offer additional complications such as a GMT, moonphase, or calendar.

- **Functions (10% Weight): 7.5/10**

The Monaco CW2111 has water resistance up to 30 meters, which is adequate for daily wear but not suitable for more rugged or aquatic activities. It also lacks lume, which slightly reduces its functional versatility.

- **Dials & Design (10% Weight): 9.0/10**

The square case and blue dial design of the Monaco are iconic and instantly recognizable. The bold chronograph subdials and vintage aesthetic further enhance its appeal, making it a standout piece in terms of design.

- **Cohesiveness (10% Weight): 8.4/10**

The Monaco’s design, movement, and functionality are well-aligned, creating a cohesive watch that fits perfectly into a racing-themed or vintage collection. Its historical ties to motorsport further reinforce its cohesiveness.

### Watch Summary:

The **Tag Heuer Monaco CW2111** is an iconic timepiece that stands out for its unique square case, bold dial design, and motorsport heritage.
